MAMA KNOW NOTHING
One fine day thee Mama's with a love for the blues decided to jam ….
Previously entitled Black Betty, Mama Know Nothing is a five-piece band compiled of Sannie Fox on rhythm guitar and lead vocals , Hagar Graiser on lead guitar , Galina Juritz on violin and backing vocals ,Adir Levy on Bass and Kurt Diedriks ( from SouthPaw) on drums.
The band has been described as blues, rock, folk , but really it's a little of everything… Black betty have been playing as an acoustic trio with various rhythm sections, but it is only this year that they found the perfect combination and formed the full band Mama Know Nothing and have recently started recording…
We are influenced by so many different genres and artists , from Bob Dylan , Hendrix , Janis Joplin or most anything from the sixties , to Fadu , Balkan , and African music , to Radiohead , Interpol , Silverchair … We all come from different places musically and the combination of classical training , jazz training and busking the blues , has resulted in a unique emergence which we have never really been sure how to classify….
The combinations of bands have collectively played at a variety of venues and festivals in Cape Town:
Obz fest 2005 ; 2007; Cape Town fest; Baxter woman's day gig; Barley Corn folk festival ; The Armchair Theatre Acoustic Café; Distrix Café ; Cool Runnings ; Zula Sound bar ; The waiting Room ; Rafikis
I would not know what the spirit of a philosopher might wish more to be than a good dancer.
